How It Works

  • Can a snow melt system be added to an existing resin driveway?

    Retrofitting requires cutting into the cured surface, which weakens the resin bond and typically voids the surface warranty. The correct approach is to integrate the hydronic loops during sub-base preparation before the resin is laid. If your current surface is intact, a full replacement with integrated loops is the more durable option.

  • What heating source does the hydronic system connect to?

    The loops interface with a boiler, water heater, or dedicated hydronic unit. The written quote specifies the connection type and any additional equipment needed before installation begins, so there are no surprises when the system is commissioned.

  • What happens if I delay installing snow melt on a steep driveway?

    Salt applied repeatedly to a resin-bound surface degrades the aggregate bond over multiple freeze-thaw cycles. On grades above 10 percent, manual clearing is also ineffective once ice has formed. Delaying increases both surface damage costs and the risk of injury on the slope.

  • How does the resin surface hold up to Golden’s freeze-thaw cycles?

    A frost-proof resin formulation and correctly specified sub-base depth prevent the heaving and cracking that affect standard paving. The installer assesses the existing base for frost heave risk and selects a resin blend rated for the temperature range at Foothills elevation.

  • Does the permeable surface still drain properly when the snow melt system is running?

    Yes. The resin-bound surface remains permeable after the hydronic loops are embedded. Meltwater passes through the surface and into the drainage layer below, then channels away from the slope to prevent refreeze at the apron.
